Empowering Youth and Marginalised Groups Through Training and Capacity Building
In partnership with key stakeholders, the Training and Capacity Building (TCB) Work Package under the Africa Climate Collaborative at the University of Ghana Fellowship initiative is making significant strides in empowering youth and marginalised groups across Africa. With a strong focus on academic development, mentorship, inclusivity, and climate change, the program is designed to build a critical mass of skilled individuals who can contribute meaningfully to global discourses and sustainable development.

Objectives of the TCB Work Package
Phase I
- Curriculum Development: Conduct gap assessments of academic programs to develop at least two need-based master’s and two doctoral programs.
- Inclusive Mentorship: Establish mentorship platforms with a focus on women, displaced persons, and persons with special needs. This includes GESI guidelines, orientation training, and assistive technologies.
- Knowledge Exchange: Facilitate vibrant knowledge sharing among faculty, industry practitioners, community partners, and scholarship recipients.
Phase II
- Soft Skills Development: Support language, career, and mental health training for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty.
- Academic Training: Enhance formal and informal training with a focus on climate change and development, in collaboration with UG Pan African Doctoral Academy (UG-PADA).
- Regional Recruitment: Expand recruitment to West African countries recovering from civil conflict, including Liberia and Sierra Leone.
- Scholarship Support: Provide scholarships for 280 Master’s fellows, 30 Doctoral fellows, and 10 Postdoctoral fellows.
Key Activities and Progress
Academic Development
- Gap assessment of graduate programs completed.
- Master’s and short course development underway.
- Academic Mentorship Programme concept note drafted and under review.
Infrastructure Modernization
- Procurement of tables, chairs, and digital classroom equipment completed; delivery pending.
Graduate Fellowship
- Selection process completed, including document review, shortlisting, and interviews.
